Going Green for Earth Day
April 22, 2013 | Posted by The Rocca Sisters & AssociatesEarth Day is on Monday, April 22nd and takes place all around the planet. We are asking you to take part this year and help to bring Earth Day awareness home to our own community. Earth day is about appreciating the Earth’s natural beauty and bringing about positive change for our planet’s future.
Here are some great tips to not only “green” your house, but also help your bank account.
- Switch to high efficiency appliances. Energy Star appliances use 10-50% less energy than standard appliances.
- Watch your temperature. Nearly half a home’s energy consumption is used for heating and cooling. Very small temperature adjustments save you both energy and money.
- Use less water by installing low-flow showerheads, toilets & faucets. This can reduce your water consumption up to 50%.
Her are some suggestions of what you can do to celebrate Earth Day.
Oakville
Oakville citizens will be taking part in the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights 22nd Annual Earth Day Clean Up on Saturday, April 20th. These generous members of the community will be donating their time and efforts towards cleaning up the trails, parks and shores of Oakville to make our home a better place. Join one of the 25+ designated nature sites or simply clean around your own neighbourhood!
Burlington
The Museums of Burlington are hosting a free Earth Day Celebration & ‘Yellow Rope’ Trail. Visit Ireland House on Sunday, April 21st from 1:00-4:00pm for a spring tour of the grounds. Take part in a planting, learn about heritage seeds, and explore their woods in their new ‘Yellow Rope Trail’.
We challenge you to join in and make a change this year to help make our community an even better place to live. This change can be as small or large as you would like, from switching off your lights, to committing to public transportation use or carpooling. The members of Rocca Sisters & Associates will all be making our pledges for Earth Day 2013, we hope that you will too.
