Smiles for Miles at Earth Day’s Hamilton Beach Cleanup
April 23, 2019 | Posted by The Rocca Sisters & AssociatesAt The Rocca Sisters Team, we are committed to making changes, both large and small, that can enrich our community and help us on our path towards environmental conservation.
After a rather dreary long weekend, we welcomed some gorgeous sunshine and a warm breeze as The Rocca Sisters Team partnered with Smart Recycle to beautify and clean the Hamilton beach strip in honour of Earth Day. Setting up behind Hutch’s, Hamilton’s Smart Recycle Consulting distributed colour-coded garbage bags and gloves to about 200 of members of the community, while members of the Rocca Sisters Team handed out packets of non-invasive seed species such as tomatoes and sunflowers as a small token of appreciation to everyone who participated in this great event. “It is very important to us to keep our community clean and green,” explains Tanya Rocca. “We are so grateful to everyone who came out, rolled up their sleeves, and joined us in our effort to protect our lakeshore for future generations.”
Garbage of all kinds was collected, and dozens of bags were filled on Monday, but the cleanup of plastic was an especially important aspect of this event. Because of its proximity to the water, plastic waste on the beach strip is more likely to get into the water and endanger birds, fish, and other forms of wildlife who may ingest it, and affect our ecosystems for generations to come.
“We are very proud to participate in this awesome event, and so happy with the turnout,” says Cathy Rocca. “It was especially great to see parents with young children happily picking up litter. It is a great example for adults to set for the youth of our communities and shows kids the importance and value of volunteering their time in the pursuit of keeping our earth healthy and beautiful.”
From the bottom of our hearts, The Rocca Sisters Team appreciates everyone who joined us at this special Earth Day event. Please be sure to save the date for May 4th from 9:00am – 12:00pm, where we will be partnering with Burlington Green and the City of Burlington to plant trees at Brant Hills Park.
