Summer is almost here, and you may be looking for some ideas for outdoor excursions to enjoy the beautiful weather we are sure to be getting any day now! We at the Rocca Sisters Team have you covered! We have compiled a list of fun and family-friendly locations for summer outings, right in your own backyard.
Flamborough:
The Dundas Valley Conservation Area sits on 1,200 spectacular hectares and boasts lush forests, streams, and a wide variety of rare plants, birds and wildlife. A visit to this conservation area can easily fill an entire day, as there are areas and pavilions for picnicking, fishing platforms, equestrian trails and a 40 recreational trail system, which includes the historical Hermitage Ruins. The Dundas Valley Trail Centre, the starting point for many guided tours, is a replica of a Victorian train station and includes interactive displays and a food concession. With so many features and attractions, the Dundas Valley Conservation area is truly more than just a green space. In fact, the natural area here and along the Niagara Escarpment has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
Oakville:
Whether you are looking for a short day trip or an overnight adventure, Bronte Creek Provincial Park has everything you need for an amazing experience for the whole family. Sitting on 680 hectares, this impressive provincial park has no shortage of activities and features, including hiking, birding, fishing, picnicking and camping. If visiting with children, the Park is home to one of Canada’s largest outdoor pools with lifeguards on duty and has a Children’s Farm with live farm animals as well as interactive play areas. With so many things to do in this one-of-a-kind provincial park, you are sure to want to visit again and again!
Burlington:
If you are looking for fun and family-friendly activities to enjoy without breaking the budget, look no further than LaSalle Park. The park is situated on the waters of Lake Ontario and offers beautiful views of the ducks, geese, and swans as well as sailboats on the water. There are also plenty of wide paths leading through the woods. A family can easily spend an entire day at the park playing baseball, having a picnic, walking the trails, and enjoying the splash pad and wading pool. Stoney Creek:
The Fifty Point Conservation Area is one of the Hamilton-area’s best-kept secrets. Situated on Lake Ontario, this magnificent 80 hectare park offers everything for a successful daytrip or overnight visit. There is plenty of hiking on a 3.4 km accessible recreational trail loop, with a newly installed fishing bridge crossing the pond. Fishing is also available on Lake Ontario. Fifty Point has one of the warmest and cleanest beaches on western Lake Ontario and an impressive marina with a boat launch. Other amenities include camping on one of Fifty Point’s 76 fully serviced sites or picnicking at one of their two covered pavilions or their many day-use picnic tables. Fifty Point also has a dog-friendly beach, where dogs may swim leash free. Open from sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week.
