At the Rocca Sisters Team, we are passionate about empowering the youth of our community. Meet two athletes hoping to represent Canada at the 2019 Junior Pan American Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador, August 29th – September 1st.
Who are Ethan and Jada?
Jada and Ethan are both award-winning karate champions. Jada Barrett is an honour student at Oakville’s Trafalgar High School and Shotokan Karate-do International Federation Athlete, 2019. She won a silver medal in the National Karate Competition in Edmonton earlier this year. Jada recently won a Gold Medal at the OKF Toronto Open last month and is ranked #1 in the Elite Junior 16/17 -53kgs Division.
15-year-old Ethan Small has won many high-level competitions while representing his Dojo, Team Ontario and Team Canada. In 2018, Ethan was selected Ontario Athlete of the Year Junior Male (Under 18) Kumite. In 2016 Ethan was the Canadian National Bronze Medalist and Silver Medalist in 2017. He is a two-time Canadian National Gold Medalist 2018 & 2019 and has previously represented Canada at the Jr. Pan American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2017 and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2018. Ethan is the 2017 Kumite Gold Medalist for Canada in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Both of these elite athletes are seeking funding to cover the cost of the trip to Equador. With airfare, transportation, hotels, meals, personal training, equipment, uniforms, and immunization fees, the cost is quite high for these champs. To learn more about their stories, we encourage you to read the wonderful article about their achievements and challenges in the Toronto Star.
