The Sweet Taste of Spring
February 25, 2016 | Posted by The Rocca Sisters & AssociatesWe are so lucky to live in the heart of the “Maple Belt”, an area of hardwood forest that stretches from the US Midwest through to the Maritimes. Every March we are blessed with one of nature’s sweetest gifts, maple syrup!
In our region there are sweet maple festivals and events, including Mountsberg’s Maple Town. They are open for business and thrilled to serve up a mouthwatering Canadian tradition that families can enjoy every weekend through April 3rd.
Mountsberg’s sugar bush has been producing syrup for 150 years! With hundreds of trees tapped, you might want to hop on the horse-drawn wagon ride for a guided tour. Production is robust in the Sugar Shanty. Kettles of sap simmer away, as the smell of maple fills the air. Try some maple candy, or purchase some piping hot pancakes to enjoy in the outdoor pavilion.
After all the sugar, you may want to send the kids to the Play Barn for some climbing, running and jumping to burn off some energy. There is also a 16km hike for the very enthusiastic!
The fun doesn’t stop at Mountberg! See a Birds of Prey demonstration at the Raptor Centre and take in bison, eagles, hawks and owls on the Wildlife Walkway.
The Rocca Sisters & Associates encourage you to get out and enjoy what our region has to offer.
