Sometimes the internet can feel like a very daunting entity. There is an entire world of content, information, photos and opinions out there, and finding those that interest you can seem like trying to find a needle in a haystack, and it can be even more difficult to be heard or found. That is why using hashtags on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest) can be a great way to highlight the things you are interested in while filtering out the things you do not need. For homebuyers, sellers, inspiration-seekers and agents alike, hashtags are a great tool to see and be seen.
Using Hashtags When Buying and Selling Your Home
If your primary goal is buying or selling your home, being specific in your hashtags is always better. If you are looking to buy, something like #homesforsale or #realestate will pull up over 750,000 posts ranging from Niagara Falls to Naples, Italy. Instead, try adding your desired location as a prefix to your hashtag. For example, using #burlingtonhomesforsale or #oakvillerealestate will immediately narrow down your geographical parameters and help you find what you’re looking for or be seen by someone who is searching within your community.
Using Hashtags for Inspiration
Unlike above, if you are searching for inspiration you can be as broad in your hashtags as you’d like. Creativity can come from any corner of the of the world, and a home doesn’t have to be geographically close to provide you with your next great interior design or renovation idea. Hashtags such as #interiordesign, #newkitchen, #beautifulgarden or just about anything else you can think of that interests you can be a fun way to see how people create their dream homes all over the globe!
Some More Tips
There is some hashtag etiquette that can differ depending on which platform you are using. For instance, when posting on Pinterest, Twitter or Facebook you should use only 1-3 hashtags. When it comes to Instagram you can use as many hashtags as you think make sense, which will help your post be seen by many eyes. Keep in mind that Instagram and Pinterest are more visual and photograph-based, while Facebook and Twitter can be somewhat more information-based. This will help you narrow down which platform to use when posting and searching.
